Assuming you can get a good shot, your coffee cake (leftover grind) should be quite easiy to take out using a knockbox. If the cake fractures with some reminaing grinds in the basket, I'd throw the remaning grinds in the knockbox.
Then for the very little remaining grinds sticking on the surface of the basket, I'll either wipe with clean with a tower/kitchen paper or wash them away. Shouldn't be too bad as it should not really block the pipes. After all, coffee grinds are biodegradable. |

Ah, it's my wrong interpretation! Forgot about this is the french press area, sorry.
Of course there's no coffee cake for french press. I thought I was in the espresso area... |
