Hi and welcome Bigmama,
i saw it in UNY once..it looks pretty neat and everything feels strong and reliable..
but IMO.. doesn't worth the money..
15 Bar
thermoblock
51mm Portafilter..
you got that kind of spec with Krup 4020..and it only cost 900-1000
(and I bet the 4020 is better)..
if you gonna spend $3000 dollars on a machine.. consider a Rancilio Silva instead..
well, just my opinion. _________________ www.zooom.hk -- high speed file transfer |

For the Rancilio Silvia, it is a near commercial machine.
A huge 58mm group, heavy portafilter and you can tune the pump's pressure. Very commercial. _________________ Eureka Mignon Hahaha |

I read about Rancilio.. Only if they have something cheaper.
But I will still consider that.
My initial budget was $2000 include grinder...but now.. it is close to $6000
(Rancilio $4800~ 166 grinder $1000, accessories 500)

- I own Starbuck Barista/Solis 166 for about couple months and Ok with it.
- My initial thought was its price point and the size (very important in HK)
- I know that 166 can only be adjusted for 10 click. At the time, I think that's more than enough vs. my faithful blade grinder which has been staying with me over 10 years.
- Turnout that I now would prefer to have more adjustment of the grinding size.
- The manual suggested that the beginning of the scale is for french press and somewhere in the middle is for the pour over.
- I kinda now use about two clicks finer than the manual suggested for both brews. It gives me a fuller coffee flavor but some bitterness, the negative side effect of the small particle size.
- The finer adjustment, IMHO, of Solis Maestro/167 may solve this problem.
- It seemed to be for grinder, you get what you pay for. Almost no short cut or value for money. I may miss something though.
- Also, I read most of this comment from the translation website and may wrongly interpret the result. Sorry for that if it happens... |

Humm. Thanks everyone but I still havent made up my mind yet.
I have asked about the Starbuck machine and it is selling for 3200 dollars.
How about the Saeco Classico? I read that it is quite reliable but I can't find it in HK Any user out there? |

Well.
I think you should get a machine cheaper in price, and get a good grinder.
Eg. ???
What I am thinking is that, 4020, and a ??? is more than enough. 1000+750= $1750 _________________ Eureka Mignon Hahaha |

Bigmama, sound like you're in espresso.
The talking about Starbuck Barista/Solis 166 is that it can't grind fine enough for espresso. It can be modified; however, once modified, the coarser grind setting for french press will be lost forever.
If I want to go for espresso, I will get an espresso grinder.
Also, if you're in the market, why don't you visit hkcoffee.com shop in North Point. I was there and tried the entry level Krups XP4020, made famous by coffeegeek.com's Mark Prince. You can check it out there and taste a freshly roasted coffee too. They also carried Rancilio Silvia too.
