coffee forum, ?????, ?????, fresh coffee beans and tea house

Hi. I'm a Canadian expatriate in Taiwan. I joined this forum to see what coffee-related items are available in Asia. Unfortunately, I don't read Chinese, but I noticed that this forum sometimes has English posts.

I'm curious to know if there are any other Taiwanese members on here.

My understanding is that Taiwan coffee scene is ahead of that of Hong Kong.

I've never been there but my feeling is that they should be able to handle some english.

I've been to Taiwan a few times and also feel that Taiwan has longer history in coffee culture (or more accurate 'specialty coffee'). Most Hong Kong ppl still staying at 'Starbucks' level.

There're many professional baristas in this forum (I'm not one of them ) so hopefully they can help you answer your questions.

I'm not one of the professional barista either, I really like Taiwan's coffee scene. The atmosphere there is awesome.

I live in Taichung City. It's not as cosmopolitan as Taipei, so our choices are somewhat limited. I usually go to Mojo Coffee here (http://www.mojocoffee.com.tw and http://coffeeclub.orsir.com.tw/userinfo.php?uid=445 on the forum hosted by ORSiR). Scott roasts his own beans, sells AeroPresses, and has a Clover. He's the guy who told me about the Feima 600N, which I eventually bought, partially on his recommendation and partially on the recommendation of two Hong Kong posters named Jackson and Bib (I saw posts by both of them on different coffee discussion forums all over the world. Actually, I just found out recently that the company that makes the Feima 600N has their office--and possibly factory--just a few minutes away from where I live. I've been meaning to go by there one of these days.)

There are a lot of products here by Tiamo. You see them in the department stores and in the kitchen/restaurant supply stores.

Other than that, Starbucks is popular here, too. There are also Barista Coffee (which I haven't yet tried) and the hugely popular 85蚓, which is a quick, cheap coffee for take-out in a paper cup. 7-11 even has coffee machines in their stores. About three years ago, there were new coffee shops opening everywhere, all offering quick and cheap coffee ($25NT - $40NT). However, as a result of intense price competition, none of them could really make a go of it, and 85蚓 seems to have been the dominant player in that particular market.
