1) Preheat the plunger with hot water, and throw out the water.
2) Use 1 tablespoon of coffee per 170mL water into the glass cylinder
3) Use water that is just off the boil (90-95C), that is, after the water is boiled leave it for 30s to 1 minute. Do not use straight away at 100C.
It will burn the coffee, giving it a burnt taste.
Slowly pour the water into the plunger, try not to disturb the coffee too much.
To do so, pour water onto the side of the glass cylinder.
DO NOT use water that has been boiled before (i.e. more than once).
The properties in the water would have changed, and that does not let the full flavour of coffee to develop!
4) Place the plunger top on, but do not plunge. This will hold the heat in. Wait for the coffee to steep for 2-4 minutes depending on how strong you like your coffee. Play with it, see what you like.
5) Give it a quick stir before plunge/press.
6) Press the plunger down slowly. Allow sediments to settle for 30 seconds before serving.
This is a rough guide.
Can add/subtract amount of coffee to taste.
I like to put 3 tablespoon for 2 cup plunger.
Grind should be coarse.
So it doesn't escape the plunger filter.
If you can't press the plunger easily, then the grind is too fine. |
