After tamping, the coffee ground tamped with the ?? tamper is having more coffee on the rim of the basket than in the centre. ?? tamper offers the same level throughout the basket. If water flows at the same rate on the side and in the centre of the basket, coffee extraction should be rather even for the whole coffee puck, and therefore the coffee taste should be good.

There are supporters of both types of tampers, as you can see the reasons listed above.

Some coffee lovers own many tampers, some with convex shape (?? ), some with flat shape (??), so different effects can be tried out.
