Believe it or not. Some picky guy said he could pick out 450g defects out of 1kg Blue Mountain:

I think Kona is not a good example. Kona is expensive due to the US wages. Besides, the calculation had not counted postage.

To ship 1 lb. Kona from US by currier should cost another HK$240 (estimate only). The cost became HK$1.56 per gram. EMS postage from Taiwan would cost HK$102. The cost became HK$3.08 per gram. Therefore, zero defect Kona is only 97% more expensive.

Wine connoisseurs are willing to pay thousands more for a bottle of better wine. I think there are coffee connoisseurs willing to pay more for a little bit better.

Anyway, even at HK$1,314, a pound of zero defects Kona is still well cheaper than a bottle Premier Grand Cru.

There was more affordable coffee scoring 97 at Coffee Review: HK$0.49 per garm, which was roasted by the same guy who promote zero defect coffee.
