Thanks for your reply. If I am not changing the steam wand to a "???", can I still froth the milk well? Actually, I have tried 3 methods:
1. use the 4050 auto-cappuccino system, i.e., insert the rubber tube into the hole provided in the right hand side of the steam wand (4020 don't have this hole) and put the other end of the tube directly into the milk. The milk will come out from the bottom of the steam wand.
Result: milk not foamy and just a little bit of bubbles on the side of the cup
2. use the steam wand without the rubber tube to froth the milk.
Result: not foamy, and have big bubbles when frothing the milk (maybe because of my skills). I recognise the steam wand will output some water besides the steam too. Is that normal??
3. don't use the wand at all. No water coming out but milk still not foamy.
Result: milk not foamy, just like hot milk.
I really wonder why it can't froth milk. Is that the flaw of the machine, or my skills or the milk?? If "???" will do, then I will consider changing it. But really want to learn the reason of it.
Please help! I am a little desperate of choosing this machine now. |

Can you show us some photos?
From the outlook, the steam wand of 4020 & 4050 are exactly the same. Many of us using 4020 can froth well (p.s. for me, skill problem...) without using ???. The 300ml ??? is fine but you need to tilt 45 degree to allow the head touch milk _________________ http://www.ratemyrosetta.com/profile.php?id=2516 |

Hello fungfungyi,
The ??? is invented by the Greatest person here.
Don't say 4020 Krups kind machine.
Even E61 Pro-sumer machine also need to change gold PRO tip to froth.
See the performance of the 4020 ???:
http://freshcoffeentea.no-ip.info/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1401&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
There is no point for me to suggest you / any excuse to save this little $.
By the way, there are 2 point I want you to sure first:
1- The machine has been fully warm up.
I always do some flush whatever machine I use.
I may waste one full tank for 4050...
2- Full Fat and cold enough milk has been used?
I always use Kowloon and put it in the freezer for about 8-10 minutes before frothing. The milk jug never leaves the freezer when not used.
Warm up procedure, please apply the concept, and do to your machine:
http://www.coffeekid.com/archived/rancilio/cheatsilvia
My concept may be wrong, please correct me if there is anything wrong.
Water inside the boiler without any movement, the heat sensor get used to the temperature and not sensitive enough,
then there may the water is hot, but the boiler not in a perfect working order - not hot enough. Especially for home machine I guess. User always just follow the instruction to do the warm up.
Yes, I agree if the machine always in brand new condition, it may be ok.
But there are many instruction tell users to flush the boiler for 1-2 tanks.
I do 5-10 tanks before do the first brew. Why ?
I guess the boiler has not been used for more than few months after it left the factory and let the boiler/heat element gets more sensitive to the water...may be I am wrong... |

Yes. I do warm up the machine but not the whole tank, and I have already used cold milk (2-10 degree). I tried Paul's milk yesterday, and changed to Dairy Farm milk tonight. Still, not much improvement.
I found a reference of milk frothing. It actually says non-fat milk is the easier to froth. Any experience? http://www.coffeegeek.com/guides/frothingguide/steamguide |

dodo 寫到: | You should definitely go for option 3, but I guess your jug is too big and that's why you can't reach the milk. So, the first thing to do is to replace the jug!
Fresh got what you need:
http://freshcoffeentea.no-ip.info/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67&products_id=242
I used Pura UHT before. It worked fine for me but later switched to Kowloon fresh just to stick with common practice. People said Pura fresh is the best but it cost a lot more.
I strongly recommend that you go get the jug first YOURSELF. And you'll discover the difference... the point is you should go 'yourself', haha.... |
thanks for your suggestion
and i will consider this seriously, of coz by MYSELF |
