hi chings
i am using the EC310 now, and after a while of trial and error, i still cannot get the milk frothing right
i have watched and read many tips and instructions on this forum and youtube, but however, everything the milk stretching goes too much, no matter where i place the wand (1cm/or deeper into the jug)
so i always end up with too many bubbles and the texturizing isnt done properly. i have also practiced with water, to see which position i should place the wand to get the whirlpool/spinning effect, but still cannot get it working
some tips/advice would be very helpful |

When frothing, try to start with wand deep down, then *SLOWLY* lower the milk pitcher so the tip of wand slightly touches the surface of milk. you should be able to hear the noise of air introducing into milk. you want the steam wand only SLIGHTLY touches the surface of the milk, or you will end up with big bubbles.
you may use water with a couple drops of soap to practice frothing, because the soap water froths like milk!
good luck. _________________

thanks for the advice ching
i took the outter part of the nozzle off (see pic 1) and left the steam wand with just the inner part (see pic 2)
after that i found the process of stretching/texturizing and creating the whirlpool/mixing the milk much easier
however, if i dont get much crema on my shot, does that limit my chance of following up with the latte art? since right now, i dont really get much crema, i am using non-pressurized basket, it takes me about 20-24 seconds to get about 30ml or so of a shot, but pretty much it comes out like black coffee
i am using pre-grinded beans from the Olympia coffee store from central since i dont have a grinder, will this affect the ability to obtain good quality espresso?

just use the inner part to froth milk, so you will have more control to introduce air into milk.
and yes, crema helps you to get good latte arts and more importantly: good taste for your coffee too.
it is always NOT recommended to use pre-ground coffee to brew any type of coffee drinks, including espresso of course. i cannot say your shot did not have any crema because of using pre-ground coffee, but i am sure you will get a much tasty and better shot if use freshly ground coffee. remember, brew right away within SECONDS (not minutes or hours) after you grind the coffee beans. _________________

Mignon Is around $3000 right?
I think I will play with the 600N to get the basics of grinding, then later on when I upgrade my ec310 to gaggia classic, I will then consider upgrading to the mignon |

ec310 + mignon will performing better than 600N + classic, grinder always the first priority to make Good Espresso!!
If you're considering to upgrade the gear in near future, forget about it and get the mignon now, don't waste the money on 600N!! _________________ Expobar LEVA 2 (Rotary Pump) & Eureka Mignon + HG One

thx for the replies ching
actually money is an issue so that is why i chose to go the budget way at the beginning =)
i picked up my grinder today, and made myself a cup of latte, however, with the milk frothing part, i still cannot get it to become creamy enough before it reaches around 65 degrees, and when i pour it into the shot of coffee, it becomes more lika milk coffee
any tips? |
